Sleepmakeswaves, The Physics House Band, Asudeva | Frankfurt

sleepmakeswaves are an instrumental rock band from Sydney, Australia.

The band came together in late 2006 with a desire to write textured, dynamic and emotive songs combining delicate beauty with dramatic climaxes. After their 2007 demo ‘one day you will teach me to let go of my fears’ generated unexpected buzz, the band produced a further two EPs. Strong word of mouth and critical praise saw the band’s listener base grow worldwide, with over 50,000 people download their tracks online and airplay on triple j and the BBC.

This surprising response provided the catalyst for the fledgling band to think that perhaps, somewhere, people might be interested in hearing more.

Thus, in late 2011, the band released their debut studio album ‘…and so we destroyed everything’ through independent Australian label Bird’s Robe Records.

Since then, sleepmakeswaves have quickly evolved into one of Australia’s most exciting and innovative musical exports. Following tours with scene giants such as Karnivool, Cog, Underoath, 65daysofstatic, Opeth and Devin Townsend, the Sydney band’s unique instrumental epics and their energetic performances have seen them connect with a diverse and passionate audience of music fans.

Over the past six years, their busy schedule has included 11 Australian tours, 4 European tours, 2 North American tours, and 2 tours across Asia & New Zealand, with sold out shows across four continents.

Their second album ‘Love of Cartography’ hit #31 on the Australian ARIA Charts (#2 on the Independent Charts, behind Sia), saw ‘Something Like Avalanches’ and ‘Great Northern’ added to rotation on triple j and US college radio; and both their debut and second album received unprecedented nominations for an ARIA Award in 2012 and 2014 (Australia’s equivalent of the Grammy’s). Not bad for a band who doesn’t have a singer.

Now, the post-rock trailblazers have announced a massive start to 2017 with the news that their third album “Made of Breath only” will be released this April, followed by a world tour throughout 2017 and 2018.

‘Made of Breath only’ is the band’s most ambitious record to date. Following a period of intense touring, relationship challenges, illness and set against the scene of a world in upheaval, the record reflects the band’s experience of darker emotions, balanced by the unexpected and humbling reception to and joy brought from their musical experiences around the world, most of all the connections with fans and new friends.

Recorded with renowned producer Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Karnivool, Rage Against the Machine) in Byron Bay, the album features a progressive combination of sounds hinted at in lead single ‘Tundra’. The record at once captures the band’s push to challenge and evolve, whilst retaining all the melody and vibe they are known for.

Known for the passionate energy they bring to live instrumental rock, the band will take their epic and climactic live show on the road, with a seemingly endless array of shows that demonstrate their intense work ethic. Following on from their 55-date 22-country Great Northern tour of 2015 & their 54-date Traced in Constellations tour of 2016, the band will visit more cities than ever before.

On the cusp of their third album release, a world tour and with an epic new live show to boot, the ‘Made of Breath only’ tour promises to be one of sleepmakeswaves’ most memorable to date.

‘Made of Breath only’ is out this April through Bird’s Robe Records.

‘Love of Cartography’ is out now on Bird’s Robe Records.

What’s New – Deine Newcomerszene

What’s New geht in die dritte Runde! Nachdem wir im Juni von 3 hervorragenden Bands harte Klänge um die Ohren gehauen bekommen haben, geht es straight weiter.

Diesmal mit dabei:

Rise and Shine!

Jinjer plus Sup: Santa Jaws, Tex Avery Syndrome, Nino Helfrich

JINJER is a Ukrainian female fronted band which plays a mixture of progressive metalcore and groove metal, with some inlays of funk, reggae and jazz, though on their second LP the band is shifting a bit to death metal of the European school according to band members. JINJER were formed in 2010, when Tatiana Shmailyuk joined the guys as a vocalist. In 2013, the band were acknowledged as the best metal band of the year in Ukraine.
JINJER are often mistakenly compared to Iwrestledabearonce, Straight Line Stitch, Arch Enemy, etc. Which is completely wrong, as members of JINJER, being asked about their influences, always name such bands as Lamb of God, Pantera, Gojira, Killswitch Engage, Death, Chimaira, All Shall Perish, Protest the Hero. However, Tatiana says that she really appreciates Sandra from Guano Apes and Shamaya from Otep for being her biggest inspirations as a female metal vocalist. She also mentions Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth and Randy Blythe from LOG.

’68 + Listener

If you have followed his prior bands, Norma Jean and The Chariot, you already know this. You have seen things set on fire, death-defying jumps from the rafters and swinging guitars that could take your head off if you were too close. Scogin spent more time in and on top of the crowd than on stage during their wild shows! When ’68 became Scogin’s new mode of expression, one would think the chaos would die down. He might be too busy onstage to think about jumping around. The subversive element of ’68 became something more subtle… the attitude. There is clever repartee between Scogin and the audience, wild interplay between Scogin and his ’68 bandmate, Michael McClellan and music that will stun audiences of alt/indie rock and hard rock varieties. Scogin revels in his non-traditional approach to music and all that surrounds it, down to the name he gave the new album, TWO PARTS VIPER. “I was in Australia last year and had a dream where a man in a nice suit and tie came up to me,” explains Scogin of the album name. “He said that I would fail if I wasn’t two parts viper… The dream goes on and takes a
few more twists and turns but that is the essence where the title came from.” He goes on to explain “The dream was terrifyingly parallel with my mental state and conflict at the time. Even the phrase he used in the dream “Two Parts Viper” shared two different meanings as the dream progressed… it struck me as interesting and so I used it for the title.” Another way Scogin rocked the proverbial boat was in his recording process for TWO PARTS VIPER. Since he is in perpetual motion – touring incessantly so he can meet fans from everywhere – he broke down the process of writing and
recording into ‘a few days here and there’ at Glow In The Dark studio with Matt Goldman. Scogin explains “We would
record a song or two, then leave for a tour. On a couple of breaks, we recorded parts of songs and left them unfinished until we returned a few months later.” Over 7 months’ time, the puzzle came together. It was a complicated process of which Scogin says “I really enjoyed it, but I don’t think I’ll ever do it like that again.” There are some wild song titles on TWO PARTS VIPER, which is certainly different than their untitled songs from the previous album. “The Workers Are Few” and “This Life Is Old, New, Borrowed And Blue,” “Death Is A Lottery” and “Without Any Words (Only Crying and Laughter)” are among them. The sound is equally unique – a rollercoaster of sonic emotion. Just when you think you know what will happen next, the song takes an unexpected turn. As for lyrical content, Scogin usually makes the album a time capsule – writing his lyrics in short periods of time. Since the making of this particular record was prolonged “It reads more like a journey. Nearly each song is coming at you through a different set of circumstances,” says Scogin. “Some are written while I’m outside sweating because it is summertime. Some are written while I was on tour in Europe freezing in December. Plus many other random scenarios. So, the lyrics are all over the place, and nearly each song puts me in a totally different headspace.” The headspace that TWO PARTS VIPER puts the listener in, is one of constant discovery. Highs and lows, subtleties and blatant elements, things that require attention. This is just what Scogin was looking to achieve. Every step of this journey was designed to keep you on your toes… provoke thought… and, of course, entertain. Wild, inside and out. If you get it, you are ’68 too.

Describing the group Listener, a few years ago, would have involved discussing two guys, a guitar, a macbook, and a washing machine; an explanation that would turn the head of even the most avante-guard fans of music. Listener has now evolved into a full fledged rock and roll power trio with vocalist Dan Smith playing bass and brass, guitarist Jon Terrey, and drummer Kris Rochelle pounding the skins as if the ghost of John Bonham haunted his dreams. With thought provoking stage banter, music that keeps your mind busy, and words that quickly take hold of your heart, Listener is a near perfect balance of what words and music are supposed to be.

After having NOVELISTS founded in Paris in early 2013 by the Durand brothers, they quickly joined forces with the former A CALL TO SINCERITY
members Matt, Charly and Nicolas and released their first Single „Twenty Years“ already in April. Their fresh and distinguished sound was something
the metal world didn’t expect. But this was only the beginning. They
released 5 more singles and numerous videos within the next 10 months, culminating in the release of their Demo EP. By that time, in early 2014, NOVELISTS’ name and music had spread around the globe like a wildfire catching both the fans’ and the industry’s interest.
While working with full force on the production of their first full length album, the demand for live shows was rising and lead NOVELISTS to play selective prestigious events like Euroblast Festival, Ghostfest, and Damage Fest, before they played all over Europe alongside I, THE BREATHER at
the end of 2014.
Empowered with this new live experience NOVELISTS finished the production of their debut Album in early 2015. It was time to raise the bar again and to increase the pressure even more. In March, the first single
from the upcoming album „Gravity“ was released with a video, gathering
over 100k plays in less than 3 weeks.
NOVELISTS had become a rising star within the progressive metal scene,
ready to release their highly anticipated first album „Souvenirs“. „Souvenirs“ was released via Arising Empire on the 13th of November
2015, right after a European tour with german band Annisokay.

Sonic Syndicate are finally back after a period of silence. The successful band from Falkenberg, Sweden was unexpectedly dropped by the record label Nuclear Blast and was forced reconsider their situation. The crisis forced the band to change it’s course significantly and they took the chance to record their most daring album yet. This time the members of the band took a deeper look into themselves which has led to some changes of the sound. On the new album “Confessions” Sonic Syndicare lets the listener take part of their vulnerability through total uncompromising honesty in their songwriting and sound.

Aware that the bands “new start” may cause a lot of listeners to raise their eyebrows the band doesn’t fear the changes nor the future. The conviction that they’ve created a very strong album, the fact that they’re 100% happy with the music and the atmospere in and around the band has led to a revival worthy the envy of hungry debutants.

“CONFESSIONS is the album we were destined to record. Everything has been leading up to this moment – all the good all the bad. We’re dropping any pretension, stereotypes and expectations and we’re left with honesty, creativity and love for music by a band that is not afraid of anything. Finally we can stand up and say we have our own sound. I think this album is going to open some doors and slam others, make waves and make noise. But the most important thing is it’s from the heart and every lyric has a message – be the change you want to see in the world. We’ve taken a chance here and nothing has ever felt so right. These are our confessions. ” //Sonic Syndicate

The new album “Confessions” will be released world wide October 14th via Despotz Records and followed up by a huge European tour together with Amaranthe and Smash Into Pieces called the Maximalsm European Tour where Sonic Syndicate will show the fans again what an exceptional live band they are, as they’ve already done in Europe, North America and Asia several times before during their career.

Sonic Syndicate was formed in 2005 by guitarist and founding member Robin Sjunnesson, who at the time was just sixteen years old. Later that year the band released their debut album on a small independent US label, to be followed by their sophomore release “Only Inhuman” via Nuclear Blast Records in 2007.

The band started to gain worldwide recognition and toured relentlessly, hitting the road with Nightwish, In Flames and Soilwork amongst others. This resulted in them scooping Best Newcomer at both the Swedish Metal Awards and Bandit Rock Awards 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden.

In 2009 the band ran into a little turbulence and swiftly introduced they had a new singer by the name of Nathan J Biggs. Without delay the band jumped into the studio and recorded a new single “Burn this city” which was released a few months later.

The band continued their winning streak, grabbing them Best Music Video and Best Swedish Group awards in 2010 (SWE).

Their next album “We Rule the Night” (2011) was accompanied by an elaborate worldwide marketing campaign which resulted in first single “Revolution, Baby!” and also the album selling Gold in Sweden.

During this time Robin and Nathan formed an inseparable bond and shared the same vision of where they wanted to be in music. Although having enjoyed the journey so far they knew unless they fought to express themselves, Sonic Syndicate would always remain in the shadow of the aforementioned bands. This action lead to an extended break and ultimately a complete line-up change except for Nathan and Robin, who went on to record their self titled album “Sonic Syndicate” (2014) their last nod to heavy metal and final release under Nuclear Blast Records.

Touring bass player Michel Barzien was initiated as a full-member and the trio set their minds to creating a new sound and vowed to write only from the heart. The band signed a deal with Despotz Records and went directly in the studio to begin writing and demoing tracks.

In late June, 2016 the band entered Purple Skull Music to record their new album “CONFESSIONS” with producer Kristoffer Folin, the new album is set to be the bands most diverse and unique work to date.
