SONIC

SONIC SYNDICATE + THE SHIVER

Sonic Syndicate are finally back after a period of silence. The successful band from Falkenberg, Sweden was unexpectedly dropped by the record label Nuclear Blast and was forced reconsider their situation. The crisis forced the band to change it’s course significantly and they took the chance to record their most daring album yet. This time the members of the band took a deeper look into themselves which has led to some changes of the sound. On the new album “Confessions” Sonic Syndicare lets the listener take part of their vulnerability through total uncompromising honesty in their songwriting and sound.

Aware that the bands “new start” may cause a lot of listeners to raise their eyebrows the band doesn’t fear the changes nor the future. The conviction that they’ve created a very strong album, the fact that they’re 100% happy with the music and the atmospere in and around the band has led to a revival worthy the envy of hungry debutants.

“CONFESSIONS is the album we were destined to record. Everything has been leading up to this moment – all the good all the bad. We’re dropping any pretension, stereotypes and expectations and we’re left with honesty, creativity and love for music by a band that is not afraid of anything. Finally we can stand up and say we have our own sound. I think this album is going to open some doors and slam others, make waves and make noise. But the most important thing is it’s from the heart and every lyric has a message – be the change you want to see in the world. We’ve taken a chance here and nothing has ever felt so right. These are our confessions. ” //Sonic Syndicate

The new album “Confessions” will be released world wide October 14th via Despotz Records and followed up by a huge European tour together with Amaranthe and Smash Into Pieces called the Maximalsm European Tour where Sonic Syndicate will show the fans again what an exceptional live band they are, as they’ve already done in Europe, North America and Asia several times before during their career.

Sonic Syndicate was formed in 2005 by guitarist and founding member Robin Sjunnesson, who at the time was just sixteen years old. Later that year the band released their debut album on a small independent US label, to be followed by their sophomore release “Only Inhuman” via Nuclear Blast Records in 2007.

The band started to gain worldwide recognition and toured relentlessly, hitting the road with Nightwish, In Flames and Soilwork amongst others. This resulted in them scooping Best Newcomer at both the Swedish Metal Awards and Bandit Rock Awards 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden.

In 2009 the band ran into a little turbulence and swiftly introduced they had a new singer by the name of Nathan J Biggs. Without delay the band jumped into the studio and recorded a new single “Burn this city” which was released a few months later.

The band continued their winning streak, grabbing them Best Music Video and Best Swedish Group awards in 2010 (SWE).

Their next album “We Rule the Night” (2011) was accompanied by an elaborate worldwide marketing campaign which resulted in first single “Revolution, Baby!” and also the album selling Gold in Sweden.

During this time Robin and Nathan formed an inseparable bond and shared the same vision of where they wanted to be in music. Although having enjoyed the journey so far they knew unless they fought to express themselves, Sonic Syndicate would always remain in the shadow of the aforementioned bands. This action lead to an extended break and ultimately a complete line-up change except for Nathan and Robin, who went on to record their self titled album “Sonic Syndicate” (2014) their last nod to heavy metal and final release under Nuclear Blast Records.

Touring bass player Michel Barzien was initiated as a full-member and the trio set their minds to creating a new sound and vowed to write only from the heart. The band signed a deal with Despotz Records and went directly in the studio to begin writing and demoing tracks.

In late June, 2016 the band entered Purple Skull Music to record their new album “CONFESSIONS” with producer Kristoffer Folin, the new album is set to be the bands most diverse and unique work to date.

Chelsea Grin + Obey The Brave + Their Decay

A Chelsea Grin in soccer hooligan terminology is the act of cutting a rivals mouth with either a credit card or blade and then kicking them in the crotch so their mouth muscles split into a bloody grimace. Chelsea Grin, the band from Utah armed with THREE guitarists use a foundation of hardcore grit combined with death metal technicality and grind speed to produce as much aural harm as the back alley jaw split.

Obey The Brave

“They say you have your entire life to write your debut and six months for the follow-up.

OBEY THE BRAVE catapulted to the top of the metalcore pack in less than two years, thanks largely to the experience the five men in the band gained through hard touring and the amassing of mercilessly heavy discographies in prior outfits. In short order, Obey The Brave took their message to the people, armed with the gritty crunch of classic acts like Hatebreed and Madball and the melodic heft and energized spirit of Epitaph label mates past and present like Pennywise and NOFX. The shadow of Pantera looms large over heavy music and there’s a hint of that timeless sound in there, too.

Aggressive might, old-school attitude and pit-demolishing anthems propel Salvation, the group’s second album, which brims with the chemistry and unified vision Obey The Brave crafted touring the world with bands like Chelsea Grin, Emmure, We Came As Romans, Blessthefall, Counterparts, Stick To Your Guns, Stray From The Path and more.

“As soon as we announced the formation of the band, we had management, a label and we were already on tour,” vocalist Alex Erian enthusiastically recalls. “Miguel and I live in Montreal, the rest of the band live about two hours away in Ottawa. We were friends, but we all know each other much better and we’ve toured about 26 countries together. These guys aren’t just friends now – they are roommates, best friends, brothers.”

Obey The Brave smash the “sophomore slump” stigma by nature of the way things came together. They had only been together for a few short months when they crafted their debut, Young Blood, which captured the fire and excitement of new possibilities, collective focus and passionate power. Salvation is the fully realized sound of a band whose identity has been cemented on the road, operating with renewed vigor and fire.

“Salvation represents us more accurately, as people, lyrically and musically,” declares the former Despised Icon frontman. “It’s got a bit more punk rock influence, a bit more hardcore. Deep down, we still have metal elements. We consider ourselves a metalcore band. We grew up in the hardcore scene, in the punk rock scene, and enjoy it all.”

Erian’s former group, Despised Icon, was a “band’s band” who counted genre-standard bearers in likeminded groups among their fans. The band dissolved right around the time former Canadian metal merchants Blind Witness and Dark Rites were calling it quits. Erian with Blind Witness’ John Campbell (guitar) and Miguel Lepage (bass) plus Greg Wood (guitar) and Stevie Morotti (drums) of Darkness Rites made for a “supergroup” of sorts. Obey The Brave had thousands of fans on Facebook before they had released a single note of music. The music video for their first single now has over 1 million views.

“Back in the Day” sets the tone on Salvation, alerting listeners that while the new album retains the core elements of the band’s debut, Obey The Brave has diversified. It recalls the heyday of energetic hardcore and metalcore both musically and lyrically. It’s nostalgic for a simpler era before smartphones and Facebook, but looks forward, too.

Another refreshing element on Salvation is the way the album bucks the trend of overly sappy “self-help” style lyrics that have plagued the scene of late. Erian concedes that he’s been guilty of that in the past, but he’s running counter to that now with the song “Into the Storm.” “I reread some older lyrics and I feel like I sound like a cross-fit trainer or something. I mean, that’s cool, but that’s only a part of who I am. There are ups and downs. Things aren’t always perfect and you can’t always be smiling.”

There’s also the track “Raise Your Voice,” which strikes back at the Internet haters who live to tear people down. It encourages listeners to stay the course and remain true no matter how much opposition is out there.

“I’ve been taking screenshots of some of the more horrible and ridiculous things people have said about me that are so over the top,” Erian says, with a dismissive laugh. “I’m more afraid of indifference than a positive or negative response. As long as people are noticing and saying stuff about it, good or bad, I’m doing something right. It’s about overcoming the fear of having to be a people pleaser or trying to avoid negative criticism. Fuck it, man! Do your thing!”

The phrase “next level” gets thrown around a lot, but Obey The Brave has reclaimed and redefined that cliché. It’s not about record sales, huge tours, tons of press; that stuff is just a byproduct of what it’s really about for them: the lifestyle. Obey The Brave have already achieved the “next level” because they continue to live life on their own terms. Salvation is the soundtrack to that belief, mentality, and relentless path forward.”

Immer.

Normahl + The Screwjetz

crazytown

Crazy Town

When the new millennium arrived the music industry was in the midst of a new music revolution. The free delivery via shared files online created a new “outlaw” brand, that would prove instrumental in the way music would be not just delivered but created. One of the breakout bands to not just embrace but help shift the tectonic plates of the music industry was Crazy Town. As one of the first hybrid brands, they brought a new ball into the game. Equal parts urban and suburban, Chevrolet and Bentley, they rolled onto the music scene with a slow build that erupted when a “Butterfly” entered the room. The two founding members, Seth Binzer and Bret Mazur were introduced to each other by WILL I AM of the BLACK EYED PEAS. Binzer brought in his long-time friend DJ AM and Crazytown was born.

The band was all the buzz in the industry, the talk of LA. Crazytown-mania created a classic Hollywood record label bidding war in which Columbia Records ultimately won. It was the Columbia/Sony worldwide reach which appealed the most to Crazytown and that reach had them touring the world and eventually garnered them a number 1 record in more than 15 countries, and selling more than 6 million copies of their first album, THE GIFT OF GAME. The success of their worldwide smash hit Butterfly in 2001was inescapable and reached iconic status.

In 2003, CrazyTown released the follow up to GIFT OF GAME, titled DARKHORSE. Couched by record executives to deliver a harder sound, the band did not follow their instincts in the studio. DARKHORSE was not the follow up record the band wanted to, or should have delivered. The luke warm reception by the media, and lackluster sales of the sophomore effort strained the relationship between the label and the band. Whether or not Crazytown was a vicitim of the changing playing field or of their own success, they found themselves without a record deal soon thereafter. Mazur and Binzer decided to take a little hiatus and re-energize for what would be Crazytowns third record. Binzer went on to have great success with a solo effort and Paul Oakenfold’s Starry Eyed Surprise. Mazur went back to his roots as a Writer/Producer/remixer working with the likes of The Plain White Tees, Julien K, Hollywood Undead and many more.

Months turned to years, and it wasn’t until Bret called Seth to discuss releasing an album of unreleased Crazytown songs that the spark was re-ignited. They decided to get back into the studio and add one, or two brand new songs to the mix. In Mazur’s words “I just felt like we had all these songs that our fans would love to hear! Why let them die in my hard drive.” One or two new songs turned into a complete reformation of a new Crazytown. “We are taking it back to our roots, for the love of what we do”, stated Binzer.

If you were lucky enough to catch the sneak preview of their new track “Lemon Face” you know they mean business. A full record release is in the works for 2014. Well poised for reinvigorating their fans and banging out new ones, the band launches live with a handful of Southwest US dates, including the legendary Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood. Then it is off to Europe in June to own their slot at uber music fests Rock In Park & Rock Am Ring in Germany, and NovaRock in Austria, before crushing it at Download in the UK. The tour is rounded out by other high profile festivals, and some headline shows.

Crazytown is back. Crazytown is wiser. Crazytown is better. Crazytown is now!
